What is car crime?
Car crime encompasses a number of different activities. Criminologists
generally divide vehicle theft into three main categories:
1. Profit
Permanent theft for re-sale, chopping, part stripping or insurance fraud.
2. Transportation
Temporary theft to get somewhere or to use when committing other crimes.
3. Joyriding
Temporary theft for thrill and status seeking, usually by youth. The term
'joyriding' is widely regarded as an inappropriate description of the
activity that it denotes.
